On Core Music Streaming
On Core is a conceptual music streaming service that offers a new way for people to discover music and interact with artists digitally.
My Role
For this case study I acted as brand identity designer creating a logo and brand guidelines for this service. I also acted as user interface designer developing a mobile app with insights found during user experience research.
Going into this project my main goal was to create a music service that is distinct in the music streaming market. Through this mobile interface design I aimed to provide an intuitive experience for users to search and enjoy music.
Interface Design
The mobile interface was developed by analyzing features from other music services and deciding what options are essential for browsing a music library. I incorporated these insights into the On Core mobile interface after researching how competitors interfaces could improve in terms of navigation and overall look.
The home layout was designed to optimize music discovery and queue visibility. Displayed at the top of the screen is a 'Last Played' timeline that shows music history. The 'Playlist' section features a preview of songs with the option of viewing the full playlist at the bottom of the card.
The On Core music library can be filtered by the search bar and quickly scrolled through with a column on the right side of the screen. Users are able to see the songs played before and after a song is selected along with the option to reorganize the queue in the upper right side of the screen.
Brand Design
The On Core brand is straightforward but holds a lot of meaning symbolically. The name, spelled “On Core” was selected because phonetically it sounds like ‘encore’, a term used when an audience requests an additional performance after a successful show". With this in mind, visually I wanted to evoke the play icon,a planet core and the action of doing something back to back.
For my research I created multiple wire frames to test the color and layout of the interface by conducting A/B testing through convenience sampling methods. I developed a logo and brand guidelines to help keep the interface consistent for future projects
